Current local news affecting today's business traveler
The Government of Canada has announced changes to its entry requirements, effective 15 March 2016, and has introduced a web-based visa issuance system, the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
The changes apply to all visa-exempt travellers from countries outside the US who travel to Canada by air. This means that also business travellers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are affected.
Starting from 15.3.2016, all of these airline passengers must apply for an eTA before departure to Canada. The travel authorization is valid for five years from the date of issue or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. Normally, a Canadian eTA can be issued within one consular working day, but in exceptional cases processing may take up to 72 hours.
CIBTvisas can obtain the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for all travellers planning a trip to Canada with arrival date after 15 March 2016.
